Tag alias: character:aerie -> character:airy

The reasoning for the suggestion of the spelling of her name is a plot spoiler, but...

Sounds like you're actually talking about the tag aerie_(bravely_default). The tag aerie is for some other character.

She's called Airy in the English version and エアリー in the Japanese one. I don't even know where "Aerie" came from.

It seems I remembered the tag name incorrectly while I was making this thread in a hurry. Anyways, I am indeed referring to the Bravely Default character.

I figured whoever originally made the tag was guessing off of the Japanese characters, and hadn't seen the proper romanization?

It could have just been an honest mistake in recalling the spelling by whoever first made the tag.

Well in Danbooru, we respect the original idea (author's idea), instead of a translation or romanization.

If originally the character name is エアリー = Aerie(that's the literal translation), then that's the properly tag. In the wiki you can write about the romanization or something relevant, for a correct identification.

Eh, both Airy and Aerie are correct romanizations of エアリー.
In fact, エア is the English word air.
And I can assure you that "Airy" is the way the original author intended it to be written.

But the literal translation of エアリー isn't Aerie. If you look up エアリー in a Japanese to English dictionary it gives the romanization as Airy. It doesn't mention Aerie. Here are a few sites:

• Google Translate

I don't know where "Aerie" came from but since Danbooru seems to be the only site to use that spelling I assume it was just a mistake on the part of the person who created the tag here.

I suppose the person who create the tag used another translator than Google, because I used ImTranslator. Since GT give me bad translations and interpretations, I preferred to use the Microsoft Tab.

When I tried it just now that ImTranslator site says that エアリー translates to "Airlie".

Anyway, I wouldn't trust either Google or ImTranslator to come up with a character name romanization.

Yeah, my mistake. About the ImTranslator, I have the app. for Firefox. Maybe, there are some differences between apps.
