What about post #1868940, which has the tanlines from an open-chest sweater but the sweater isn't in the image?
What about post #1877604, which has a school swimsuit parodying the open-chest sweater but no actual sweater is involved?
What about post #1871909, which has no sleeves? According to the sweater wiki, sweaters must cover the arms.

I think we need something more general like open-chest_clothing to apply to the non-sweater parodies. post #1881936 with a santa costume, for instance.

Other implications already make it hard to stick to that definition exactly. For instance, I've used ribbed_sweater in combination with sleeveless_turtleneck, or sweater_vest in combination with sweater_lift, in applicable instances as I didn't think creating yet another new tag for those cases was necessary (though in the latter case, I see vest_lift exists, so maybe that should be used instead).

We already do, it's called cleavage_cutout.
If it's not the iconic sweater, then cleavage_cutout whatever search is fine.

I disagree; that tanline image illustrates that the current implication is too broad.

On another note, what about sweater_dress - should that implicate sweater and/or dress?

For the tanlines I'd suggest cutout_tan similar to those other tanline tags.
Sweater_dress should implicate dress, subset.
