PSA: Please learn what a hime_cut is

Posted under General

I am really sick and tired of needing to go through this tag every month and remove a hundred images that are in no way, shape, or form a hime_cut. This is goddamn ridiculous.
Look. The wiki page already tells you all you need to know.
hime_cut
"A hairstyle consisting of straight cheek-length or longer sidelocks and frontal fringe. The rest of the hair is usually worn long and straightened. Take notice; this hairstyle requires maintenance, so the sidelocks (long or short) must appear cut at the ends. Hime cut does not simply mean straight bangs, and there is already a tag for that: blunt_bangs."

So why then, do I keep finding the tag on images that don't even begin to fit that description?

None of these are himecuts, and there is seriously no reason that I should even need to be making this post to establish this when the wiki page clearly describes what a himecut is as well as providing several good examples. In particular I should mention the Kancolle characters kitanami_(kantai_collection) and hayashimo_(kantai_collection), who are regular victims of being wrongly tagged.

Here. Here's another helpful image:

If in doubt, please ensure that you definitely have #1 and #4, and have at least one of #2 or #3. Without at least three of those four key points you are not looking at a hime_cut.

Thank you.

I would personally disagree, since while it does have the #3 shorter front cut, the way the fringe is cut doesn't seem to apply, and the rest of the hair isn't cut straight either. I didn't write the definition page though, so a discussion of it could be a good call.

I think part of the problem is that there isn't a tag for haircuts with long straight hair and blunt bangs but without the sidelocks, and so people just shunt them into the himecut tag anyway.

Noted. I don't have to use hime_cut often, so I always check the wiki entry to make sure I'm using it right.

The Wiki is a very helpful part of the site to learn how tags work and what their correct usage is.

Which also means it gets completely ignored by a lot of people, or by those who have their own idea of how tags work (how it sounds in their heads). It's bound to happen, but I understand the frustration with seeing the same tagging errors happening over and over again. If it seems to be the same handful of people misusing tags, feel free to inform them about the proper usage with a DM, and then a Neutral or even a Negative Record if needed.

Seems other mistags come from the translated Pixiv tags on upload, which people assume are always correct and fit the Wiki's definition, and that's not always the case.
