Lubricants and oils

Posted under Tags

From what I can tell, this is the way things presently stand:

  • sunscreen is overwhelmingly dominated by posts with beach scenes or swimwear, usually both. It appears to be a tag defined more by context than by having a particular appearance. It also implies lotion.
  • oil is a fairly ambiguous tag that includes body oils (post #1438169), cooking oils (post #1629620), and machine lubricants (post #1206206).
  • lotion seems to encompass pretty much every consumer product intended for one's skin that isn't makeup, including suntan lotions, massage oils, and personal lubricants. It's kind of a clusterfuck.
  • lube almost exclusively consists of personal lubricants, though sometimes this tag is used for tubes and bottles of the stuff rather than the product itself.
  • lubrication refers to an action, like applying sunscreen. It could probably stand to be better populated, but shouldn't require cleanup at this time.
  • tanning oil is a tag, despite suntan lotion having been aliased to sunscreen.

We also have a grease tag with only 8 posts. It primarily refers to stains on clothing.

I think that at the very least, oil could be cleanly split up into multiple tags (e.g. cooking oil, motor oil) if that would assist in search. The lubricant tag can be safely merged into lube, with the exception of post #2317932.

A lot of the posts tagged lotion (that aren't implied by sunscreen) are actually lube. Unless our goal is for lotion to be a catchall tag, in which case it should be implied by lube as well, some cleanup is in order.

Also, I noticed a few posts tagged lotion that only show the bottle, so these should probably be tagged lotion bottle instead.
