Why not also have similar implications along those lines, like ikayaki -> squid or yakitoumorokoshi -> corn?

You could say the same of the fish and shrimp tags. In practice, all these tags are used for food on a regular basis, as evinced by a shichirin fish search or the fact that shrimp tempura implies shrimp. Once you filter out all the splatoon posts, you'll find that a large proportion of squid images are of food, regardless of how it's prepared (post #686568, post #1025254, post #2336384, post #2386429).

Splitting the tag up into separate squid (food) and squid (animal) tags might be useful for disambiguation, but once again, the same could be said for fish and shrimp.
