I'm honestly not sure which tag to use as the alias, but dressing_room has 190 posts while changing_room has 134, so I went with the tag with more posts.

The tag alias changing_room -> dressing_room (alias #14751) has been rejected.

Both terms are basically synonymous, from what I can tell, with usage being a matter of personal taste. Sifting through both tags, it seems like they're used for at least three distinct settings:

• Private rooms used for fitting new clothes in department stores (post #159523, post #1678980)
• Backstage areas for costumes and makeup at performance venues (post #1946577, post #2289508)
• Communal changing rooms like the ones found at swimming pools and onsen (post #2446607, post #2601356)

EDIT: looks like we won't need an alias.

I think it'd be better to do more to separate these instead of lumping them together. They're different visuals and dressing room isn't actually defined to cover all of those depictions.

• Merriam-Webster: dressing room - a room used chiefly for dressing; especially: a room in a theater for changing costumes and makeup.
• OED: dressing room - A room in which actors or sports players change clothes before and after their performance or game.

In the case of the sports player definition, that would most likely consistently fall under locker room.

The private rooms for trying on new clothes would fit under the term "fitting room".

• Merriam-Webster: fitting room - a room in a store in which customers can put on a piece of clothing to see if it fits before they buy it.
• OED: fitting room - A room in a shop in which one can try on clothes before deciding whether to purchase them.

Which would leave changing_room open for covering communal changing rooms.

• Merriam-Webster: changing room - (1) a room where people can change their clothes in a public place (such as a store). (2) British : a room in a school, sports stadium, etc., for changing clothes and for storing clothes and equipment in lockers
• OED: changing room - A room at a sports ground, swimming pool, etc., where one can change one's clothes.

So it'd be split between fitting_room and changing_room instead?

I don't mind doing that, although I'll group the tags all under changing_room for now until I can go through and sort them out.

I've been tagging the onsen/sentou ones as "changing room" but I wasn't quite sure if that was right given how the tag was discussed in that thread. They have to be tagged with something though, and the other related tags didn't fit as we: no lockers, and "dressing room" doesn't sound right for them.

I've drafted a few wikis for changing room, dressing room, and fitting room. Feedback is appreciated as always. I haven't much time to clean up the tags and sort them out right now but I'll try to work on it throughout the week.
