the PC98 tag

I've been looking at the pc98 tag and I cant figure out what it means. Does it have any thing to do with the PC900 series?

Other than being mostly of a similar art style and a degree of pixellation I dont find much they have in common. (Mostly girls in various state of undress but this is Danbooru.)

I would think so, yes. Most of the posts in that tag look like game CGs from eroge released on those PCs.
