I'd like to direct your attention to post #277719 and its aftermath. If you want to post spoilers, USE tags or else you will face consequences. Just for the record, Rasuberi was privileged and FeKa is a janitor, so yes, you will get banned if I ever catch you spoiling.
I saw one such image and some of the early comments before watching the episode. And I saw the episode within about 12 hours of airing! How is anyone expected to avoid spoilers in these situations? Annoying, truly. I removed a number of spoilery comments regarding this event after watching, but this stuff tends to multiply like a cancer.
The presence of spoilers is one reason why I try to avoid the comments page entirely.
Note to people finding spoilers: I'd recommend mailing a mod about it in addition to flagging the comment for deletion, as the mod queue for comments is not checked daily (at least not by me).
I'm not 100% on the official policy regarding that, but I think you can post it--but be sure to tag it with spoilers.
If it were me, I'd probably lay off it for at least a week--but chances are good that another person will upload it in the meantime. Which is fine by me, I don't feel possessive towards my uploads or anything, but it sort of defeats the purpose of trying to avoid uploading spoilery content too soon.
Yeah this is a... delicate issue. The spoilers tag is a double edged sword. On the one hand, if someone has it blacklisted they're safe. On the other hand, most people won't by default, and just seeing it tagged "spoiler" is often the very thing that spoils it, since a lot of spoilery art isn't clearly a spoiler unless you're told it is... for example, by the 'spoilers' tag.
Also, blacklisting the spoiler tag is also counterproductive because then images that would have been a spoiler for you six months ago are still blacklisted, even if you've seen the show in the meantime.
But all in all, it's just one of the risks of using imageboards... I certainly made a point of not coming here today until after I saw the episode in question.
Note: btw, as noted it's 'spoilers' not 'spoiler', the latter only being used on a few images. Guess I'll suggest an alias.
Yeah, it's kind of too much to ask people to not talk about a "spoiler" of an episode the day it airs. Like jxh said, the best solution is just not visiting spoilerific sites until you watch it. I doubt the people not watching the show care much though.
How about a 'Flag for Spoiler' button for comments that makes them 'click to show' for like, a week or so.

Well, talking about it (i.e. spoilers in comments) is totally unacceptable, and just unncessary. But spoilery images... well, this is an imageboard after all. It's gonna happen. I will admit I have passed on uploading spoilery images from time to time if I thought it could be really harmful. But not often.

We need a way to handle spoiling images. One can blacklist "spoiler", but he's still going to see all the talk in the comments. And hiding spoilers needs to be the default, anyway.
This idea might sound convoluted/far-fetched/stupid, but here goes.
A Spoiler Overlay that covers the entire image in opaque black and with some type of "Possible spoilers for this series" message. It would function somewhat like the Notes -- removing it would only take a single click anywhere on the image.
Maybe the spoilers tag should be blacklisted by default. It's not like you can't view blacklisted images, it just requires an extra click on "Hidden -> blacklisted-tag". Maybe that should be the default for spoiler-images.
I don't see how it relates to comments since those still fall under the "use when talking about spoilers", and if the image was default-blacklisted because of the "spoilers" tag, there's no excuse forgetting to tag your spoilers.Though to help people out, perhaps an extra warning underneath the comment box when you comment on an image with a "spoilers" tag would be helpful. Something like..."You are now commenting on an image that contains spoilers. Remember to mark any spoilers with !"
[Edit: Bah, I was replying to the last comment on the first page, I missed there being another page. So it's somewhat overlapping with what's been said already]
Much more important is hiding it in the comments list, if you load an image, you should be already aware that it's tagged "spoilers". So first and foremost, spoiler thumbs should be replaced by a generic "warning spoilers" thumb, and comments hidden from the comments list. This way you'll be able to judge from the tags if the image in question is safe for you and click it if you want.
I read through the thread because OP mentioned a post (the code geass one) which I saw just after watching the ep myself. I completely agree that most people gets offended by that. But seriously...there are far more offensive stuff. Things like guro/farts/piss or whatever may be some peoples' fetish, but are certainly disgusting to other. Some might say now that spoiler images can't be distinguished in the thumbnails view from other pics. But the same applies for some of the above mentioned tags.
It's already mentioned here but I would suggest a global template-filter which can be deactivated in the "my account" menu. But contrary to surasshu, I would collect some more tags for the filtering (mentioned above).

With the default blacklist, only those who deactivated it see the post anyway. They will be prepaired for that.
We should make a colored (fat black?) frame for pics with these global-listed tags (so even if you deactivate the blacklist you can see if the picture might be offensive).
