Unalias misused hips & text

Posted under Tags

BUR #2154 has been approved by @evazion.

remove alias hips -> hip_focus
remove alias text -> text_focus

Reason: hips and text are still getting misused a lot even after the implications. The implications should be removed and hips and text be made “do not use” so that they can be cleaned easily and users get warned when they add those tags.

This won’t fix the backlog of hip_focus and text_focus misuse, but at least it should greatly reduce the amount of new misuse.

See also forum #160712 and following.

Why should we keep track of two tags?
This doesn't seem like a good idea at all.

At least have the misuse happen under only one tag.

Also, we should call-out the misusers directly.
I'd rather blame the users instead of a valid alias.

I’m pretty sure that both of the pretty hard to clean *_focus tags don’t get misused that much, but text and hips get added without a second thought and are actually very easy to clean since they should always be empty.

Yes, that’s good, but you need to notice those misusers first. I think it’d be pretty hard to pick them out from all those valid *_focus posts, but it’ll be easy to notice them if you see a bunch of posts with text or hips pop up and all were tagged by the same user.

If you want to repeatedly clean text_focus and hip_focus, be my guest, but I’ll keep an eye on on text and hips once this request goes through instead.

Edited "remove implication" to "remove alias".

Thanks. My bad.

I think the biggest offender for the hips tag already got called out.
When I looked up their tagging record after I read your entry post, they didn't do much and used the tag correctly even (I thought it was inspired by that one user but it seems I was wrong).

Figuring out hip focus isn't that hard, I think I've mostly cleaned up the tag before I submitted the alias, so it should be only new posts there. Not sure about text focus, because I frankly care not much about comics etc.
Maybe we should just nuke the text/text_focus tag altogether. It's mostly comics, anyway.

This makes sense; someone intentionally tagging *_focus likely realizes how it's supposed to be used, while the focus-less tags are far more likely to get misused inadvertently. And with autocomplete it's not like people won't be able to find the *_focus tags without an alias. However I have no idea if it's still an actual problem right now, this is just thinking theoretically.

Frankly I think these are both garbage tags that are beyond saving. When you have people tagging things like post #3726781 as hip focus or post #3602032 as text focus then I have very little faith people will ever use these tags properly.

Well, that’s exactly why I wanted the aliases removed. I’m pretty sure someone tagged post #3726781 with hips because hips are (barely) visible in the image and thanks to the alias, it turned into hip focus. Same with post #3602032: There’s some text visible in the image, so someone tagged it text, which got turned into text focus. I doubt anyone intentionally used the *_focus tags on those posts.
