Implication: Breastplate -> Armor

Posted under Tags

I do agree with the proposal, but there is another related issue I want to bring up: we also have the boobplate -> breastplate implication (topic #15149 and topic #15367).

There are posts like post #1957141, post #59965, post #2656371, post #4118884, post #4119518, post #3915524, post #3527637, post #3636190, and many others, which don't even qualify for boobplate under its current definition.

From the boobplate wiki: "This tag is a subset of breastplate. As breastplates are designed to protect the torso, this tag shouldn't be used for posts that expose significant portions of cleavage or midriff. For armor that only covers the breasts and leaves most of the upper body exposed, use the bikini armor tag instead."

So we need to either do a large clean-up of the boobplate tag, and breastplate due to already present implication, or remove that implication (and still do the breastplate clean-up).

Personally, I'm in favor of removing the boobplate -> breastplate implication and relaxing the boobplate definition to match its current usage. Posts that I've listed above do look distinct from the bikini armor, it's still a plate even if its usefulness as armor is questionable. Also, this will probably lead to less mistagging in the long run.

I'd be more supportive of this implication if breastplate weren't so prone to being grossly misused. About a year ago I had to clean up the shirogane_noel posts because somehow this character became associated with the breastplate tag, and uploaders were mindlessly tagging that decorative patch over her boob as a breastplate (e.g. post #3630744) even though it bears zero resemblance to an actual breastplate.

If you you think we should tag useless little plates like that as armor, fine, but in that case we might as well have hardhat and knee_pads implicate armor too.

I agree with this. Boobplate is basically impossible clothes but for chest armor. It doesn't necessarily have to be a literal breastplate, it can be any type of rigid armor that magically conforms to the boobs. See for example post #2441604 (a muneate) or post #3947901 (stormtrooper armor, which I wouldn't really call a breastplate).

Most of this stuff just needs to be cleaned up. I see a lot of cases where people are tagging things like muneate or fantasy armor that barely covers the boobs as breastplates. I think a breastplate should cover at least enough that you could call it a solid plate of armor.
