There is no formal Devil May Cry 1, the more appropriate way to refer to it would be with the year as suffix, see: Imdb

This is the case with several tags on this site, take Portal 1 for example.

I mean, that applies to anything that got a sequel. Most people don't affix a 1 to the end of their brand new IP, but it usually becomes the easiest way to differentiate the first game in a series from its follow-ups in casual conversation.

I also see that you went ahead and created that tag before a discussion? The alias would have handled that.
