Etiquette about using Danbooru Translations elsewhere

Posted under General

Hey, I wanted to try typesetting some of the manga that have translations on Danbooru for Mangadex and wanted to know, is there some etiquette I should follow (beyond crediting the person who originally added the notes)? Or is that not allowed at all?

Translations from Danbooru are often used elsewhere and I haven’t heard that it bothered anyone as long as proper credit was given.

Look at the posts’ note histories to find out who the main translators were. If you don’t want to check all posts, at least check a few across the series/chapter because sometimes a different translator takes over after al while. You don’t need to give individual credit to all the users who only made small changes or translated only a few bubbles.

I’ve seen several scanlators credit us like “[name] and the Danbooru fairies”.

If you're really worried, you can message the translator and ask; I've been asked a few times before. It's also fine to ask for rewordings to fit bubbles since translations here aren't limited by space and shape constraints, while typesetting most definitely is.
