Getting rid of individual Touhou game copyright tags?

Posted under Tags

Would anyone be against this? I don't think it makes much sense to have as tags since the copyright would be the Touhou series and not attributed to a single game within it. There are specific instances where the tag would make sense, like referencing a part in the game or a game-specific costume for a character. The problem is, it seems like it's often used when the character in the image originated in that specific game in the series but that is not tagged with any consistency. Do you think the tags should be cleaned up and a better definition written, or should they be removed?

Yes, many people, including me.

It makes sense to have these tags since there are plenty of artworks making a direct reference to the game, either by having the full cast present, or if a playable character is wearing an outfit from a given game (they are pretty distinct - Reimu for example). Other examples will include if a spell card is shown (it's rarely tagged but should be tagged, as it references the game), or if gameplay elements are present (ability cards from Unconnected Marketeers do count, but arguably animal spirits from WBaWC might not count unless they are presented as items). Some other examples that are applicable are if a pose is copied from the game (post #4495699 for example).

Most uploaders will slap on a game copyright tag if it shows up as a translated tag and not care about the standards to follow, because they don't care about Touhou or haven't read its wiki. If this is a problem, the solution is to simply garden these tags; add them to applicable posts, and remove them from irrelevant posts, and point a repeat offender to the wiki. In my opinion, I think the touhou wiki should be rewritten to better clarify when individual games should be tagged, as "making a direct reference" to a game can easily be misinterpreted by many uploaders/taggers.

Adding to what has been said above, consider that Touhou is not just games. There are tags like Trojan Green Asteroid or Forbidden Scrollery, which refer to an album and a manga, respectively.

I'm thinking adding examples to the wikis of each Touhou work will be more helpful; an example of an applicable post and one that doesn't count. The section in the Touhou wiki should be rewritten/removed to better reflect this. Even if uploaders are still unlikely to correctly tag the works, it's not a problem for gardeners to add/remove the tags by referring to these wikis.

Since the Touhou wiki only mentions tagging games, it might be unclear to some people for tagging print/album works, even if they can apply the same logic to them as well (a direct reference in the image or parody of album artwork, or a character wearing a distinct outfit from a printwork, similar to tagging a game if Reimu is wearing her outfit from that game, etc).

Currently, I have no problem gardening this myself as-is, but having better-defined guidelines in at least one wiki would more effectively validate my tag edits in case someone ever disagrees with them, such as if it comes up as a translated tag.
