Is there a tag for this? The best I could think of was "sobbing", which had nothing, and then "manly_tears", which didn't have what I was looking for (it takes a real man to sob openly, right?) so...
Is there a tag, or should I just go through "crying" and "tears" and tag every file I see with "manly_tears"?
(In case someone still doesn't know what I'm talking about...um, it usually occurs when the guy's crying due to some emotional blow, I think. Not necessarily a negative one. Sort of a WHY ARE YOU SO GOOD TO ME?! sort of thing, sometimes.)
That's the problem--I haven't found any yet. Oh, I know they're on Danbooru. I've seen them before. But I never saved them, and I never really thought about them until now, and...
You get the picture, right?
And the one image I remember who the crying guy was--apparently it was never tagged with "crying". Which leaves me with the soles of my feet and the eyes in my head.
So I'm looking backwards through 542 pictures of "crying", trying to catch the occasional guy.
But you know what I'm talking about! That's a start! That's definitely, positively a start!
Incidentally, does anyone remember a Haruhi comic/doujin wherein Yuki would sort of love-crazy and made it so Kyon would vomit up any food he ate unless she made it? I think that had an example of the ugly cry in the end, but I'm not sure...
unicogirl, you need to stop linking to tags which don't exist without mentioning that you're just making them up. Furthermore, I've never heard of what you claim "the slang term for it has been".

True. That being said, "ugly cry" would be a good tag for it, if you could find any posts with it.

I thought that is what people did when they Discussed making a tag, not necessary linking something that doesn't exist.
I am just following what others were doing.
And I edited my post to link an example. And "ugly cry" is indeed a known term for it. Just Google it. More American based I suppose, and it's meant to taken as funny.

When you propose a new tag, propose it. I.e., say, "Hey, what about if we used this tag? Here's my reasoning." Not "Everyone and their mother already uses this tag. You should use it too." which is what is implied by "The slang term for it has been [wiki link implying that it's already in use]".
Also, Urban Dictionary has a measly 32 votes on ugly cry, which suggests it to be a relatively unknown slang term; compare with, say, moonajuana, 29 votes. America is pretty large, too, so "American based" is unlikely unless it's something really universal. Google returns under 9000 hits for "ugly cry", making it less than 1/5 as well known as, say, jxh2154 :P
And I gotta say, I don't have much of a better idea, but "ugly cry" sounds horrible to me.
Fine, but don't say it's "the slang term for X" when it's not a well-recognized and well-known term. Just propose it normally. What's so hard to understand about this?
I think we need a different approach. There are many situations where characters are suddenly drawn realistically, both for dramatic and comedic effect. Remember Dr. Slump?
Therefore, I'd separate the realistic style from the crying. I would use something like "sudden_realism" for comics where the style suddenly switches, while we already have "crying" for crying. For single illustrations, we already have "realistic" or whatever.
