is really anyone on danbooru searching in neither-english-nor-romaji for stuff that's already named in english, especially when the non-english alternative is relatively obscure like "pilotka"

yes, and if you googled "italian army cap" it might return "bustina", "calot" for french army, "bivaque" for portugese army, etc etc. if we followed this line of thought than every popular depiction of, well, anything, would have aliases to another language. this board uses english to operate, so english should be the only version of a tag, at least for things that exist in the english language.

If I can't find shit in the language that google calls it, then there is an issue. If you feel like aliasing the other versions, you can propose those. But pilotka is what TF2 calls it, what wikipedia calls it, what a whole bunch of military supply stores call it, and what the city of San Diego calls it, then it's good enough for me.

this argument convinces me a whole lot more than "I googled it so there", you should lead with that next time. as for the other things, some make a lot of sense like red envelope and others seem obscure like drakkar. the value of these aliases should be addressed case-by-case and not as a blanket statement, so I apologize for that.

I'm not cultured enough to know about the others, especially as english is only my 3rd language but:

  • blahaj is a very used name for the ikea shark in the entirety of the west, so much that i learned "blahaj" as a name long before learning it was called ikea shark as well, and i'm not swedish
  • Djinn is also a relatively known and used name for genie (genie originates from french btw), it's place in other languages is roughly comparable to english speaking people using "couture" as an actual word, even if it is taken directly from french, same for "foie gras" for example
  • "effeuiller la marguerite" is also another case of a french phrase getting embedded in english, comparable to "crème de la crème", even if the latter is way more popular, and again there are a whole bunch of other french terms and phrases like that

But other than that, like bob said, the other part of your argument is a lot more convincing
