When to tag leg warmers and loose socks

I already asked about it on "How do I tag this", but seems like the builders who tag it are also unsure.
If it's something that was settled on Discord or here can we add which to use in certain situations on the wiki so they can be gardened?

I'd probably suggest looking to consider what type of material they're made of. If it looks like a material more common for a sock (woven, has a cuff/welt at the top common with socks) probably assume it's a sock and then look for things to determine if it's not a sock. If the material is less common with socks (for example really furry like post #6576284, made of synthetic material similar to a windbreaker jacket, etc) or they require a band, lace, or ribbon to be kept up then should assume a leg warmer and then look for things that would indicate it's actually a sock instead.

In the case of feet not being shown, probably follow a similar thing with assuming common sock materials are for socks and uncommon materials are for leg warmers.

You can't always define the material depicted, actually you can't even do that most of the time. Not only that but leg warmers also have the cuff/welt you're talking about for socks. Fact is by looks, loose socks and leg warmers look very similar the majority of the time...
I think we're just gonna have to go with the same type of rule as tagging pantyhose by default if we can't see the top of the legwear under the clothes. problem is defining what would be the default when the looks of leg warmers/loose socks is also dependant on the bias of the viewer, what would default to leg warmers in my eyes might default to loose socks for someone else.

As Mayhem said, as far as I can remember there are even some tags that are aliased solely because people can't determine the material to tag it properly.
