cropped_torso... mutually exclusive with upper_body?

Posted under Tags

The last clause in the cropped torso wiki--

Cropped torso:
Don't use if their lower body is merely out of frame (see upper body). There must be an empty gap between the cropped section and the edge of the image.

--suggests it's mutually exclusive with upper body, and perhaps because it's older, upper body makes no clarifications. One user (@momone) has been mass-adding this tag to upper body posts, so it'd be nice to have a concrete guideline between the two. The opinions of Builders on Discord are pretty evenly split, and I've always used one or the other because cropped_* tags feel like their own, distinct group to describe composition. Thoughts?

The two should not be mutually exclusive. Saying that this is upper_body and that this isn't, just because the torso wasn't cropped in the correct way, is absurd. If I were searching for upper_body posts and every cropped_torso was being excluded from my results because of some technicality in the the wiki, despite being the exact thing I was looking for, I would not be a happy user.

The purpose of this clause is to tell users "don't tag things like post #7163460 as cropped_torso. just tag them with upper_body". It's worded a little poorly, but it's not saying the two are mutually exclusive.

I also have always assumed they are mutually exclusive as they feel like entirely separate compositions. I similarly don't use "cowboy_shot + cropped_legs" "cowboy_shot + feet_out_of_frame" or "feet_out_of_frame + cropped_legs"

I can see that all of those tag combos have pages worth of images though so maybe it's time to actually discuss composition tags. I have always assumed one primary tag per image which informs of the basic composition and is exclusive with all of those other tags.
