Not all vehicles are designed with multiple/a pair of headlights. Thus we don't need stuff like single_headlight. The singular tag has more than 800 posts.
Seems more natural to reverse this alias since it's far more common that they come in plurals than in singular form, especially with the most common vehicles on the site that have them. This would also put them matching their counterpart tag tail lights.
Alternatively we can simply question the point of these tags when we have less than 1k posts with either tag despite having some 39k tagged motor vehicles.

Unless there's posts of a character holding an uninstalled head/tail light, it's most likely tag padding to get a vehicle_focus no_humans post to 10 tags (i will admit to being guilty of this myself, it's basically the only time I remember to use them)
If it's just a vehicle that happens to have headlights, the tag is probably unnecessary. However, I can think of a few scenarios where headlights would have some significance to the picture worth tagging.
The first that comes to mind is the beam from headlights illuminating something in the dark or generally contributing to the lighting of a scene (e.g. post #7599406, post #7429714, post #7245153). Should that be its own tag?
Another thing I can imagine wanting to search for is pop-up headlights (e.g. post #6968839, post #6930893).

I agree, better to tag them only in the open position.
I'm tempted to tag post #4489774 with one eye closed, heh. Wonder if a single deployed pop-up headlight (where the other is visibly not) is worth tagging. That's the only instance I came across, but it's something I can imagine searching for.
I'm currently populating headlight beam (tagging pop-up when I notice it too). Got through headlights and tail lights, ways to go still on headlight. Edit: Done, for the contents of those three tags. Probably other posts around the site missing it.
The consensus appear to support deprecating at least. Maybe I'm jumping the gun with nukes?
I found several mistagged headlamps and moved them. I left alone those that were vehicle headlights in personifications: post #6526377, post #6702160. I've also got an edge case which could be consider either or both: post #725684, which for now I tagged with headlamp but left headlight on.

I'd say yes, it's pretty uncommon, and even as a non-car autist it seems to be interesting information someone'd want to search for.

Made favgroup #33098, there's only 5 cases so far among the posts that are currently tagged with pop-up headlights. I did not include posts where one of the headlights is out of frame (post #4497319) or obscured by something else in the image (post #5533055). Now we just need a name for it - single pop-up headlight seems most obvious but could potentially be mistagged on cases like the ones I omitted. On the other hand, single deployed pop-up headlight is a little too long despite being more clear about the use case.
I think at this point it's safe to deprecate the broad tags. We don't have any posts of uninstalled head/tail lights lying around or being held by characters yet, but we could always just make uninstalled headlight or uninstalled tail light if any images like that ever do get uploaded.

single pop-up headlight is fine, it's doubtful that this tag will ever grow to a size big enough that it would become an issue to fix mistags.
