Fairly Oddparents: Aliasing Poof and Peri

Posted under Tags

BUR #29954 has been rejected.

create alias peri_(fairly_oddparents) -> poof_(fairly_oddparents)

Peri is just an older version of Poof that changed his name. The tags almost completely overlap, with only one post tagged Poof without Peri.

Regarding the alias order, Peri is the current official name due to certain factors preventing the new series from using his old name, so I actually think it would make more sense to alias Poof to Peri. The reason I'm proposing using his old name anyway is because post #6198188 shows him from the original series (though as a goldfish you can barely see) and calling Baby Poof by his new name doesn't sound right to me.

This should absolutely be an implication and not an alias IMO, they don't look like the same character at all from a first glance.

But is an implication justified when there's an almost complete overlap? When we add implications for other characters, no single form usually dominates the base character tag by such a large amount.

topic #25769 (Okay, it's over human vs. animal forms, but the sentiment appears similar to me.)

As above. If I'm thinking about this correctly, this would make Peri the base tag, and Poof would only be used when represented as a baby like in the old show.

I didn't like the idea of either making an implication or tagging Peri on posts of the original show, but doing both at the same time seems to address my previous concerns.

To be clear, that implication will make posts tagged Poof get both Poof+Peri tags.

The concern I had was that an alias would result in that one post being tagged with Peri and not Poof. Making it an implication makes that concern moot and also allows us to remove Poof from posts of the new series, which takes care of my other concern of the tags overlapping.
