imply side_up_bun -> hair_bun

Posted under Tags

idk i just saw on the hair_bun wiki page that the other bun tags implicated hair_bun and that side_up_bun was the only one that didnt have this implication

adding the implication made sense to me just cause the rest had them, but i dont feel particularly strong about it. would u say it is a better idea to alias into double_bun or maybe even just nuke the tag (since no one really uses it anyways)?

BUR #30742 has been rejected.

deprecate side_up_bun
mass update side_up_bun double_bun -> -side_up_bun
mass update side_up_bun single_side_bun -> -side_up_bun

hair bun already serves as umbrella tag for hair buns, any other weird hairstyle should get its own tag rather than force us to use a gigantic umbrella tag for different hairstyles. No need to have this when we have single side bun, double bun, triple_bun etc. see below

Ok, to understand what's going on:

  • we have single side bun for any type of bun where there's a single one on the side
  • we have double bun for any type of symmetrical hair buns
  • these two bun tags don't describe the type of bun, just the count
  • side up bun is attempting to tag a style of bun like post #8026955 where not all of the hair is in the bun, just a portion of it

Is this correct? Then this tag has merit. The main problem that I see is that the name is pretty confusing. I assume it's a play on one side up, but I'm not finding any relevant result on google. When I opened the tag I had assumed it was a duplicate of single side bun from the results.
Looking into it, I suppose that's because it's very rare to have all of one's hair bundled up on a single bun on the side. Given that there's many cases of double buns like this like the one I linked above, it probably makes sense to keep this tag.

there was a post there before after the bot but its gone now

Yeah I deleted my post to rewrite it, because I realized I had misunderstood what this tag was for.

oh, thats what happened. okay
yeah it seems like thats what whoever made the tag thought probably. no idea about the name
but there seems to be asymmetry on amount of "side up" buns between single buns and double buns. looking at single side bun most of it is "side up" like that pink blue archive girl mika, but double buns have non "side up" buns more often. and other styles like the buntails and stuff

yeah thats the same conclusion i came to which was partially why i proposed the original implication and saw the tag as fine. i agree that the naming is pretty confusing, but i dont think there is really a better name for it. at that point, i guess the wiki would just have to be written more clearly maybe?

i think the side up bun tag wiki is based off the one/two side up wikis too:
two side up:
> A hairstyle in which some locks of hair are tied up on both sides of the head *while the rest hangs normally*.
side up bun:
> At least one hair bun on the side of the head, *with the rest of the hair hanging normally*.
it's worded kind of similarly

also do buntails have a tag

edit: there are quite many characters with what i call buntails. ground miku from project voltage has two and many other mikus do too. sailor moon has two. natsu from blue archive has one in her band costume. ruan mei from honkai star rail has one. shiraishi tsumugi from idolmaster has one to the side i think. and that's just a few off the top of my head and with ponytail hair bun solo looked up on gelbooru
