Tag discussion: stocks vs. pillory

Posted under General

The stocks and pillory tags are being used pretty much interchangably right now, but I looked them up on Wikipedia and it says "With stocks, boards are placed around the legs or the wrists, whereas in the pillory they are placed around the arms and neck and fixed to a pole, and the victim stands." Do we want to disambiguate these tags or are they too similar in terms of tagging to warrant separate tags?

I'd be willing to support separating along the lines of head + arms = pillory and just wrists or legs = stocks. Merriam-Webster's online dictionary supports those definitions.

There are some oddball ones though that don't follow or fully follow either definition though. post #220169, post #240425, post #220171, post #236946.

Perhaps for danbooru's purposes we use stocks for the restraints of just the limbs, and pillory be used for it so long as restrains the neck or body (not necessarily the limbs as well).
