Pixel-perfect duplicates but different MD5 and size

Posted under General

Nothing. Duplicates should be parented to the superior/existing post on the site and most of the time they do not get approved. Different sources may compress differently which is why the file is not exact and therefore may differ in file size and therefore also the MD5 hash, but them being pixel-perfect duplicates means that given the pixel space of the image, they're exactly the same.

The only case where you need to do anything about a bad id post is if there's a direct MD5 match and it's a confirmed first party source in which you can directly switch the source link from the dead source to the active source. Pixel-perfect duplicates should not be uploaded as an alternative source; if it's dead, leave it dead until a first-party MD5 matching source comes along, if ever.

I'm not sure what addition is warranted here.

would putting the alternative source in the comments of it be okay?
