Barbie movies tags have a whole lot going on with them. Bunch to untangle. Hopefully starting organizing the mess with me slamming out wikis for each of the Barbie movies we have copytags for. Starting things off with the fact that the tags for our royalty characters are inconsistent as to whether or not the title's slapped on at the beginning. I'd prefer if we dropped the titles of the ones that have them, so here's my proposal for that. Qualifying with the full movie when its potentially ambiguous aka it went to a different character when i entered the name on barbie movies wiki. And then also moving our other Alexa to a matching disambiguated tag.

create alias brietta -> brietta_(barbie)

We don't have any other characters named Brietta on Danbooru (like we do for Willa), but I'm of the opinion that unless a character has like, hundreds of posts and it is very clear who they are, if they only have one name (and it's like a real name. who tf would you confuse Bibble with aside from the bible) it should probably be qualified regardless.

create alias eden_starling_(barbie) -> eden_starling

Conversely to what I said in forum #357939, I think that if a character has a first & last name and its unique, I don't see a point in bothering with a qualifier. hey did you know that all the characters in this movie share their initials with the characters from the Dickens novel. i only realized that shit when i was like 20

BUR #41645 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

create alias nikki_watkins_(barbie) -> nikki_(barbie)

And then finally to finish things off for this round, the tag we currently have for Nikki. If we want to include her last name, then its not ambiguous; however including the last name would be in direct contrast to how we handle the tags for Barbie Roberts, Ken Carson, Teresa Rivera, Renee Chao, and so on and so forth.

Thanks for starting the gauntlet. Got a lot to work through with this bad boi.

Yeah, same. And "Brietta" feels very much like the sort of name I could meet someone who has. Definitely should be qualified in any case.

create implication stereotypical_barbie -> barbie_(character)

I think regardless of how we handle the rest of the Barbie chartags implication/aliasing-wise, Stereotypical Barbie is distinct enough to be both a unique character tag and also definitely implied to the main Barbie tag. I mean, she literally is Stereotypical Barbie, the Barbie you think of when you hear the name Barbie.

BUR #41777 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

rename barbie_fairytopia_(film_series) -> barbie:_fairytopia
mass update id:4579084,4579136,4591709,4609115 -> copy:barbie_fairytopia:_mermaidia
create implication barbie_fairytopia:_mermaidia -> barbie:_fairytopia

Aight now we getting into potentially contentious shit. As I previously mentioned uhh somewhere I don't think the Fairytopia and Mariposa film "series" need umbrella tags. We don't even have any fanart of Magic of the Rainbow because there's not enough yuribait in it and also its lame. So here's me moving the tag, populating the tag for the sequel, and implicating that.

BUR #41778 has been approved by @nonamethanks.

rename barbie_mariposa_(film_series) -> barbie:_mariposa_and_her_butterfly_fairy_friends

And now same deal for Mariposa. This one is even sillier to have an "umbrella" tag for, its only two movies! Also including "Barbie: Mariposa" as a utility alias since while "Barbie: Mariposa and her Butterfly Fairy Friends" is indeed the full name nobody casually calls it that. Separating the sequel tag creation & implication into a separate BUR because right now we only have one post for it and its arguably not necessary to have a separate tag for it.

Not sure how I feel about the Mariposa sequel getting a tag (Mermaidia makes sense as Elina has a different design and to my knowledge a very different vibe from the OG Fairytopia), as Mariposa doesn't have a different design and I think might be the only returning character? The only one to stay a main character at least. Not anything I'm gonna hard press on though, I just ain't sure how to feel.

nuke barbie_movies

And now for my own potentially contentious BUR. Here's the thing: Very few of these movies are actually connected lore, story, or character wise outside Barbie and co. playing as the characters in their own fictional universe. And the ones that are are better off handled by implying to whatever movie they are connected to. The only other reason I can think of to keep them would be for seeing any crossovers, and if someone wanted to see characters from different movies together (like post #4560946), that can easily be covered by in-franchise crossover. This tag has no reason to exist in its current state beyond padding.

If there were any reason to keep this tag, I'd like to know, but as it stands, it'd be better to implicate these tags to the main Barbie (Franchise) tag by hand instead of umbrellaing through an ultimately useless tag (once clean-up of the base tags is complete here that is).

Yeah Mariposa's the only returning main character, rest show up for like, maybe less than 5 minutes iirc? Mariposa does get new costumes by the end of the movie (because of course she does Mattel's got dolls to sell dammit) but our singular piece of fanart for the movie does not feature her in any of those costumes.

For what its worth, there are five posts under Barbie Movies and not matching any of our individual Barbie movie tags - we got three for My Scene Jammin in Jamaica (post #5350391 post #5350402 post #5350427) which is not usually considered a Barbie movie despite Barbie's connections to the My Scene franchise, and then two parodies of Barbie in horror movies (post #6117791 post #6117801).

Ah, if there's new costumes exclusive to the sequel, then yeah having the tag makes sense. You never know, after all.

That's good to know, I think. The first are easily covered by their own tag (which it has), and the latter are just that: parodies. Sounds pretty safe to nuke to me then~.
