Alias SMG to Submachine Gun

Posted under Tags

So are we going to start having "AR" for assault rifle, "SR" for sniper rifle or "FN57" for FN Five-Seven, among others? Submachine guns might be a different scenario since they are much more popular and - sure - are typically known by their abbreviation but we're an anime imageboard. Plus, typing in "subma" already gives you submachine gun as the first result ("subm" pulls up partially submerged first).

I don't mind either way but just be aware of the can of worms you're inviting for the gun nerds here on Danbooru.

The only benefit for this is the fact that, unlike assault rifle and sniper rifle via /ar and /sr, doing /smg does not give you the tag already, since 'submachine' is one word, so it'd be /sg, which people would associate more with shotgun if not thinking about specific brands, which is just... /s here. But the question becomes whether "smg" would actually be used as a utility alias, a legitimate question when we already have submachine guns which imply the submachine gun tag.

SMG is a fairly popular term for the weapon type, to the point where they're more often referred to with this term than the full one. I don't think we need to have aliases for every other weapon type just because we do this.
