Change stance on ai-assisted images.

Posted under General

AI generated and assisted are the same thing. I don't care if a little part was modified, it's still ai doing most of the work. Generating a perfectly proportioned body using ai to then paint over is as dishonest as tracing over someone else's work and saying it's yours. Bad artists can't draw bodies properly and if they're using ai, they're skipping years of learning and hardships that all the people who came before them had to develop.

Ai-Assisted and generated are clearly different enough that some are worth keeping.

For example backgrounds:

We aren't going to throw stuff out because the background uses AI.

For character models, AI is usually producing many artefacts (pupils scrambled, hair melting) and costume design errors. Touching these all up to look correct is real design work.

Additionally, there's so many AI features now, like Adobe's infill option or the new artificial object removers on Canva that it's not worth it or possible to determine AI use in many cases.

I will also add that, approvers and contributors who curate the gallery are the main discriminant factor in what ends up archived. If a majority of these people have accepted Ai-assisted, that's what ultimately will be archived. I generally trust the approvers to determine things as being mostly AI or having enough human effort that they are worth keeping.

Ai/ai-assisted is a fuzzy line, if the art hasn't been sufficiently touched up draw attention to it in the AI check thread or flag and explain why it's not human.

Beside AI backgrounds stuff like using AI to generate pose references also falls under AI assisted and that is fully human.

You have to understand that AI-generated art is banned not because on the basis of it being made by an AI but because it's more likely that not below Danbooru's quality standards and exhausting to examine for its almost guaranteed flaws. Danbooru allows derivative work and uploaders are free to ignore "do not reupload" disclaimers by artists. It's not some moral stance.

It's weird that the only way you believe AI can be used is to make the majority of an image and not the other way around. We're also an archival site, not a place to moral grandstand. You're really in the wrong place if you're trying to soapbox about AI on the same site where we have shit like guro.
