Like add icons, so people can help differentiate from different users and also for some personalization

I generally differentiate people by the first character of their names (both online monikers, and anime character names) which makes a lot of people the same. While it is not a huge problem for me (I don't care about people enough to remember stuff about them and use that later for anything), profil pictures would make that easier for me.
Also people generally like expressing themselves and customize their images with profil pictures.

This isn't a social media site it's an archive.
I wouldn't mind having avatars, but from an administration perspective it's a headache. I'm content with things staying as they are.
Icons would be nice from a forum perspective. Otherwise customization is not really needed here (speaking as someone who loves customization).
Regarding the avatar feature, if it can be implemented in the future, I would like to provide some suggestions:

- User can only use active post on Danbooru as avatar. The image can be cropped. If the post is later banned, the avatar will be reset.
- Avatar should be G-rated, or apply blacklisting filter for them.
That's what e6 does.
While we're at it, we should have forum signatures too.

I was going to say that I don't think we really need profile customization but this has shown me the light. We need customization but only if it's obnoxious as possible I think that all my fourm posts should be neon pink and in comic sans.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, but there are customizable profile pages. Internet Archive is an archive, but there are customizable profile pages too. And frankly, with the old rules of commenting gone, Danbooru is getting to feel more and more like a social network with silly comments and emoticons/emoji. I don't think it's normal to see comments like "lol", "lmao", "based", "cringe" in archives.

We discourage those kinds of comments most of the time, though. Despite the rules you listed being discontinued, the community is still implicitly expected to follow them, to an extent.

It used to be explicit. And the extent became too broad since then, to be honest. This is if we assume that Danbooru is exclusively an archive, not a social media. If we assume that Danbooru is a social media too then it's nothing unusual.
A reminder that the user tooltips have had a little icon in the top left corner since they were added back in 2020, and has been left unused since then despite it looking like the perfect place for a theoretical on-site avatar. Last I recall hearing, it's more trouble than it is worth.
I'll only approve of this idea if we get to have old 2000's forums signatures back. You know the ones.

I think having a propic is silly but having a little like bio thing on user pages might be nice. A little blurb where you can write shit like "i do a lot of tag gardening, uploading official fgo art, writing wiki entries, and overthinking my life choices. niches: fate, evillious, barbie, homestuck". Or more helpful notes like "i exclusively upvote scat and girlpiss", whatever people wanna put on there (as long as its not violating any community guidelines obviously).
The bio thing sounds kinda nice, though I can see it as being another annoying thing to moderate so that they adhere to community guidelines. An avatar I'm not sure about since this is an imageboard, but more specifically an imageboard that regularly receives DMCA takedown requests. If a user has an avatar of an image on the board that's been DMCA'd by the artist, I have no idea how the logistics of that would work out.
