steering_wheel is GARBAGE in its current state

Posted under Tags

While steering_wheel might be useful, it's currently used for basically any post of a car. I can't see how it's a useful tag on posts like this:

In fact, over 1.5k of those were added by a single blue user, out of 3.8k posts under this tag.

My suggestion is to limit the usage of this tag to posts where it seems to be detached, or at least prominently displayed (like in car_interior), like how we don't tag every cowboy_shot with legs:

Detached
As a part of car interior

deprecate steering_wheel

I saw this tag again in my events, so I think it's time to put a stop to this. Being tagged on every car worth a damn isn't helping its case.

Otherwise, it should be gardened and the one blue user told off on its usage.

Now that you've gone and deprecated the tag instead of just telling the blue user to not tag it on everything, please tell me (and write in the wiki for steering wheel) what posts like the following one should be tagged in the meantime:

undeprecate steering_wheel

Okay, I'll admit I was very short-sighted when I posted the previous BUR, but in my defense, I expected a little pushback before Moose approved it 15 minutes in after I posted it.

@EpicSaxGuyZ, if this gets undeprecated, please please please stop applying the tag to every steering wheel in existence. It renders the tag useless for finding art where it's actually important.

Tag it as driving + car interior, or come up with a new tag for hands on steering wheel if you must. Instead of tagging every individual component of a car, it's better to tag what the characters are actually doing and where they're located.

If we tagged cars the same way as we tag people then every car post would be tagged as steering wheel, dashboard, rear-view mirror, side-view mirror, headlight, windshield, wipers, window, glass, car door, door handle, wheel, tire, rubber, car trunk, red paint, paint, etc. We've already had to deprecate tire and headlight because of people doing exactly this.

First of all... holy shit how I did not notice the uproar I caused here.

Okay, let me come clean, because I really did not want to make things worse... yes, I am pretty much responsible for all of this.

The thing is, I felt like adding the steering wheel to the ones missing because I always thought people weren't adding it when it needed to be tagged, so I did.

I can tell why you are all bothered about this; even the small steering wheel detail is what I did, and it seems I have screwed this up.

So... I would like to say sorry about it, and I promise to NOT tag it every time.

But please understand that I don't have any bad intentions here. I am not trying to ruin this website impulsively. I only wanted to contribute even if it's a little. I am not an artist or someone who can upload submissions... I am only a car guy who loves car details... especially the steering wheel designs. So please forgive me.

But that aside, I noticed some people are doing steering wheel on ship ones where it has handles, which I found the ship's wheel is a thing. I also wanted to fix that, but if that's even wrong, then I will make sure to act accordingly.

Otherwise, I only wanted to help out. So please understand.

Thank you.
