At 471 posts, it should be an alias so people are forced to get the new tag and can't recreate the old one. Most people aren't going to think that way and still tag necklace, evident by how many tags we have for different types of necklaces that aren't actually the neck part itself but rather the attached accessory.
That being said, it's not much help when there's several necklace tags already implicated that really are about the neck part but get confused and used for the pendant part either as well or only. It's not the most immediate thought people would have about the differentiation. I sure didn't. Look at the wiki for magatama necklace for example.
If we do an alias, someone will have to manually tag some butterfly_necklace -necklace posts with necklace. A mass update isn't an option because there are some butterfly chokers mixed in (e.g. post #4784648).
Brings me back to topic #32380 again.
I see the problem with this now; sometimes it's hard to know until you actually run into it if it's not something you normally think of. I uploaded post #10081264 a few hours ago and I can't tag the thing on her neck because no tag currently exists for it and if I were to use butterfly necklace that'd be a mistag.
From some autocomplete digging, it looks like the answer most people arrived at is to call this an "ornament", but the tag is generic enough that it virtually applies anywhere. A lot of our ornament/pendant tags have this three-way split; there's an explicit tag for if the ornament is worn in the hair or on a hat and a generic one if it's to be put anywhere else. So right now, this would be tagged as butterfly ornament.
We have butterfly hair ornament, butterfly hat ornament and butterfly ornament as tags. As a show that this isn't an isolated thing: musical note ornament also has musical note hat ornament and musical note hair ornament. Star ornament also has star hair ornament and star hat ornament. Heart ornament is a monster of heart hair ornament, heart-shaped ornament, heart hat ornament, heart ear ornament, heart (organ) hair ornament and heart tail ornament.
Sometimes people call it a pendant but I think those tags are used more like small brooches. Necklace tags are used both for the actual chain part in standard and nonstandard shapes as well as for the ornament that hangs from it.
