Gradient skin implication

BUR #49818 has been rejected.

create implication gradient_skin -> multicolored_skin

Convention is to implicate gradient tags to multicolored ones. I'm slightly hesitant about this though because most of this is just colored extremities or potential mistags like post #10171022 (no gradient and probably has a better fitting tag to describe what's going on with his skin) so I'll meh it. I struggle to even find an example of actual gradient skin and multicolored skin to use because most of these pages are just filled with natural skin colours accented with an unnatural one rather than actually two unnaturally occurring colours.

The alternative is to break convention and let this tag serve double duty but to use it for just colored extremities seems redundant.

what does "gradient skin" look like? all i see is a bunch of normal skin + colored arm/leg. isn't that what colored extremities is supposed to be for? multicolored skin seems to be for 2 weird colors like blue + green

is it not extremity if it's the whole arm?
probably the only post that feels like it can't be tagged with just extremities

Which is part of the problem. I have this BUR up somewhat intended to be left in limbo while trying to figure out exactly what to do with it or what example posts can be attached to its wiki but the only gradients I've been finding from two brief skims over every single post tagged with it is already covered by colored extremities which can reasonably cover gradience like Lingsha (Honkai: Star Rail)'s or hard colour difference like Elizabeth Bathory (Avenger) (Fate). When it's not simply just colored extremities, I can only find hard colour differences like Gardevoir (who seems to be tagged with two-tone skin).

I didn't opt for a hard nuke because that's usually the final option if a tag doesn't look like it has any use. I'd like to give it the benefit of the doubt and let it incubate for a while, something might turn up.

imo gradient skin sounds pretty useless since colored extremities is always going to "connect" with either a gradient or a pattern and the pattern case feels rarer

for the few posts that are multicolored but not an extremity like the thigh i think there should be a "colored skin patch" or something like that or maybe extremities should be renamed to partially colored skin or partially colored skin should become a parent of extremities

I'm inclined to agree. I'll give it time; if there aren't any examples, let alone good enough examples, then I think that speaks to the nature of the tag being poorly conceived and designed mostly to have another tag on a post rather than for it to be a good tag. After all, just because we have gradient other things, doesn't mean every single thing tagged with colour needs it.

Extremities shouldn't be renamed because that, unlike the confusing nature of the multiple colours tags, is a very specifically taggable concept. That tag isn't so much the problem as the wikis and design of multiple colour skin tags are (and just those; solid colours are also fine and received recent clarification, per topic #33240, which I made some wiki edits regarding).

BUR #49986 has been approved by @evazion.

deprecate gradient_skin
mass update colored_extremities gradient_skin -> -gradient_skin
mass update two-tone_skin gradient_skin -> -gradient_skin

I gave it time, I had a few more looks, I just don't think this tag has any kind of good quality to it that makes it worth keeping. Most of this tag isn't even significantly tag-worthy gradience, it's effectively an equivalent search to colored_extremities or two-tone_skin or otherwise covered by other high-information tags that actually have search value.

Here's a counter BUR to deprecate it and to remove it from the aforementioned two tags. The leftover posts can be gardened by hand so they don't lose any information. Skin colour is a well-taggable concept so that information shouldn't be lost from those posts if they don't have a better tag to go with it yet.
