Shortening the spoken punctuation tags

Posted under Tags

BUR #49932 has been rejected.

create alias spoken_ellipsis -> spoken_...
create alias spoken_exclamation_mark -> spoken_!
create alias spoken_interrobang -> spoken_!?
create alias spoken_question_mark -> spoken_?

Not only are these tag name lengthy, they also lack aliases to the actual punctuation, requiring taggers to know the name of the punctuation before they can tag the spoken variant. These aliases are in line with the existing aliases for the punctuation marks themselves.

While I can see and understand the reasoning behind this BUR, it just feels weird/wrong to me to have the tags like that.

yeah, it works with !? because it's just the punctuation but when there is a word in front of it it looks wrong

Related: Should these tags also be considered to cover thought bubbles even though they are not "spoken" per se?

They already are (supposed to), making separate thought_* tags is just dumb.
