wiki for character count

Posted under Tags

hey i was having difficult navigating the complex char counting rules of the booru that were scattered across multiple tags so i made a wiki for it based on the text from solo and other tags. i also included the couple/throuple tags since it feels like one is based on the other anyway

tag group:character count

if anyone knows about additional obscure danbooru rules for how to count things on an image please feel free to add them to the wiki, thanks in advance ๐Ÿ‘

This reads more like a howto/help page because of the nature of the tone of its language. Tag groups are usually not for explaining things like this, and you overexplain/go out of scope for anything starting at the couple header and below which starts to get into pairing tagging (for which there can be multiple in an image) and not character counting. Character counts are purely the x(+)y(s) tags with x being a number and y being girl, boy or other.

tag wikis like solo's include rules for when to use the tag so i think it makes sense for a tag group wiki to group the rules for the tags it groups. it's far more convenient than having some rules on solo, some rules on solo focus, some rules on people, some rules on multiple views and so on.

it's also hard not to go out of scope when other focus and other with other aren't counter tags but there is no better place to understand what they mean in the context of danbooru than alongside character count tags

You miss the point, read it again. The point is that this wiki is already oriented as a help article about bodily presence in an image which is a completely valid wiki to write on, but the title is bad because it's a "tag group on character counting" that is actually only 25% about counting characters and 75% about other guidelines - not hard rules - about using tags related to presence and pairing in an image. This would be more accurate if you used a name like "Character presence" or otherwise but that only solves half the issue because the pairing tags remain agnostic to character counting. Those belong in a separate page, in part also because it's not complete (like not having a clear place to know about the consensus from topic #26618).

This isn't a tag group. It's one page trying to explain two different topics that can be related but aren't always.

Also your example for 3girls + multiple views is wrong, it's 1 girl from multiple angles, not 3.

weird, i thought that was the case because multiple views didn't count for solo. i guess it's just another solo exception then.

I fixed some of the errors, but the wiki should be more concise (assuming we're even going to keep it). Having all those word-heavy lists bunched together is a bit hard to read.

imo if the lists feel hard to read it's because the rules are too complicated to begin with

You could make any amount of formatting or reductive changes. Don't blame the exceptions for your high word density. It is awful to read.

This is another reason why how to use a tag is largely put inside the wiki of the tag itself instead of in a central location because you aren't going to want to be reading unrelated guides or information when you're just trying to figure out the usage of one tag. One wiki might be helpful but in turn it needs to provide clear, concise and quick information, not a word dump that will be unread.
