The game file is split into multiple layers like this
asset #48196955
asset #48196952
asset #48196957
Should I combine them and upload them to Danbooru?
And if I combine them, will it be considered a third-party edit?

stitched. It is an acceptable kind of third-party edit when done properly.

After reading through Wiki, it seems that stitched isn't very appropriate.
It's similar to the available PSD file, but this is a game asset created by Datamine and not uploaded by the author

You are assembling it to present the original thus it's non-destructive modification.

It still doesn't qualify for stitched, which is for placing parts of an image side-by-side.

need new meta tag for this
We previously discussed assets like this in topic #35073. I agree we should have a separate tag for these. I think merged_layers would be the most straightforward name for it.
@ngo_enthusiast You said in the above topic that you were planning on uploading some tachi-es made from multiple layers. Have you done this yet? If so, which pools have them? I'd like to use those assets in a BUR to create the new tag.
@Blank_User i've only done pool #28841 and pool #28743. i meant to do more but i realized it was kind of spammy and unnecessary so i stopped
BUR #59164 has been approved by @nonamethanks.
mass update pool:28743 -> meta:merged_layers
mass update pool:28841 -> meta:merged_layers
New tag for images made from merging multiple layers.

@ngo_enthusiast You really don't need to worry about that. Even if it did cause any inconvenience to others, it's only temporary. Your priority should be preserving content. If you're uploading legitimate posts and people are telling you to stop, just ignore them.
If you don't want to finish your pools, then add some links to the assets so others can finish it. You can add links in the comments like ANON TOKYO suggested, or you can add them to the pool description. I think adding it to the pool description would be best since you won't have to make a bunch of repetitive comments and it will be clear how many assets are used to make all of the combinations of that character.
Edit: forum #439750. Evazion recently posted this about two hours ago. He says he doesn't want users (especially Contributors) mass-uploading these, or at least not all at once.
The discussion is still ongoing. If you're thinking of uploading a tachi-e set, check topic #36155 every once in a while, but be careful not to jump to any conclusions.

Why is it blue?
meta:merged_layers
forget it
merged_layers
Anyway, does this need to be impli with third-party edit?

BUR #59889 has been rejected.
create implication merged_layers -> third-party_edit
See above.
I can see some official/second-party usages, but I think if we include those the tag's meaning is going to be diluted.

do merged layers only apply if there are multiple layers or is it just one? eg if there's only four expression files for sad, happy, excited, surprised, vs the eyebrows/eyes/mouth are all separate
Did you read the wiki description? If you're combining layers, then it applies. If you're posting the image as-is, then it doesn't.
Minor edits that don't substantially alter the content of the image may be allowed under specific circumstances. This includes posts that have been stitched, colorized, cleaned, detexted or, if scanned, slightly cropped.
The following tags implicate this tag: decensored, detexted, fake_translation, hard-translated, headshop, nude_filter, third-party_ai_edit, third-party_extraction, and third-party_watermark.
From the list of accepted edits, only the "detexted" tag implies the "third-party_edit" tag. This suggests that there are edits that aren't problematic. The "merged_layers" and "stitched" tags are very similar in my opinion.
I do want to point out that stitched's place in that sentence hasn't been touched since before stitched stopped implying third-party edit in 2021 (topic #19092, wiki comparison).
third-party edit is for alterations. merged layers is merely a reconstruction of the original image, it's not a third-party edit.
