Ethics of Translation Bumping

I'm pretty sure it's unreasonable to think everything with the translation_request tag will get translated, but I'm always hesitant to bump the post for the sole reason of asking for it to be translated. I guess I feel like I'm imposing on the translators.

Is there some kind of protocol/standard when it comes to this, or is it just cross your fingers and wait?

I'm not an authority on comment protocol, but as a translator I don't mind seeing so-called "translation bumps" the times I do check the comments. There may be other translators who dislike the practice, though.

I sincerely hope I don't incite a translation bumping spam spree by saying this, but frankly, often the posts I translate are things I happened to see bumped in the comments section. It's not the first place I look when I choose stuff to translate, though.

I'd say if it's old (i.e. it's been off the radar for a long time), and non-trivial (i.e. not just sex sounds or sound effects), there should be no problem with bumping in the comments.

In general I don't think there's much issue with it at all, even under other circumstances, so long as you don't make a pest of yourself by flooding the comments with translation requests.

Keep in mind though at this point comments flow pretty quickly, so even if you do bump a request in this way, it's not unlikely to be missed by translators anyway. Especially if you bump it when people aren't active.
