Running an ofline local version?

Posted under General

Hello all,
I would like to know if there is a way I could make an Offline local copy of the site, (I do not want to re upload or anything against the rules,) Just want to use the functions and tag searches offline and run a copy of the site from my local hdd. I know the Danbooru source code is available and there are utilities available for downloading web sites (but those utilities download ALL the pictures on the site, I do not want them, nor do I have the space.

Thank you SO much to who ever can contribute information to this.

I know this isn't what you asked (since I have no idea how to help you with your real question) but have you ever heard of Google's Picasa? It is what I use for my personal collection, and it has the tag system that should work more or less like this site's. It is also much easier to set up, I assume, than setting up a local site.

Sorry if this isn't what you wanted, I'll shut up now.

Using Picasa with more than a couple thousand images is basically a very *very* bad idea. It starts making thumbnail databases half the size of your actual collection and it's terribly slow. That is an exaggeration, though I genuinly thought it was really slow.

For my own collection I downloaded images with "tagbooru" and I use windows7's built-in indexer for searching the images. It has about a million images indexed and searches take about 5secs.

Thanks for the heads-up. So what are the alternatives for someone not using Windows 7? XP for instance. And no, I won't upgrade to Windows 7 until I can afford completely new hardware to make it worthwhile.
