General Consensus on Adjectives (Aliasing)

Posted under General

Found some tags that I figure should be aliased but I decided to check here first. The first one I don't think should be a problem (I'd add it myself but I seem to be unable to do that), however I'm curious about the last two.

(tag that I think should be aliased to...) -> (...this tag)

top_down_bottom_up -> top-down_bottom-up

There's two uses of the tag top_down_bottom_up so I figure it might crop up again.

big_breasts -> huge_breasts
big_boobs -> huge_breasts

This one I'm not so sure of. huge_breasts is the vastly more popular tag but is there a standard on Danbooru that "huge" is generally used as an adjective to describe large things, rather than "big"? Should there be? I'm thinking that choosing one over the other sets a standard that all the other related tags should follow. In other words, aliasing "big_breasts" to "huge_breasts" means that it should always be "huge_penis" or "huge_eyes" or whatever. Actually, just doing searches for "*huge*" and "*big*" it seems like huge might be the more popular adjective already...

That huge_breasts tag has some history behind it actually. It was originally a tag called "bb" (short for big breasts). The tag is intended for _really_ big boobs, not just D-cup but giant, outside the realm of reality size breasts. The idea behind the change (aside from being much more clear) was that people would be more reluctant to put a huge_breasts tag on an image, unless the breasts in question are really HUGE. I still regularly have to remove the tag from images that don't warrant it, so I don't know how effective it was, but there you go.

Of course, I could just link to the original thread where all this was discussed: forum #3829

FWIW, your alias requests all sound good to me, but all aliases have to be approved by an admin.

Agreed. BTW, for anyone who didn't know, there's also a convenient /tdbu alias.

big_breasts -> huge_breasts
big_boobs -> huge_breasts

No, that would destroy the meaning of huge_breasts.

Yeah I was aware of that but, as I mentioned, I personally haven't been able to submit aliases and I also figured that the big_breasts/huge_beasts thing warranted some discussion. Apparently I was right, but I missed the discussion. :)

Fair enough. I was operating under the impression that there are three (four?) levels here: flat-chested (very small or no discernible breasts), breasts (when the breasts are big/noticeable enough to attract attention, but not humongous), huge_breasts (for huge breasts of course), and no tag for everything else. However you've reminded me that not everyone is going to think that way and there is a high potential for abuse.

So I guess the answer to my question is that "huge" isn't so much the de facto standard for "large" so much as it is used to make sure people realize the tags should only be used when things are clearly "huge."

Should anything be done with the big_breasts big_boobs tags then? Or are they pretty harmless.

Yeah, you definitely did the right thing in opening a thread for any alias you're not sure about. I don't know why you weren't able to submit aliases, though... Is that a bug or can only privileged folks do that?

Yeah that's what I meant: an image with big breasts (that doesn't qualify for huge_breasts) should have a "breasts" tag.

EDIT: I guess this is unclear, but I didn't mean just big breasts, but in that specific situation, one should use the breasts tag. I definitely didn't mean that it should ONLY be applied to that situation.

That's not what I'm saying - not 'big', but 'prominent, i.e. it's something worth noting in the image. This can be quite normal, even small, breasts.
