Basically, I wanted to create a wiki page for the character named Zero from the Rockman series. And in order to do that, I need to first distinguish him from the ambiguous tag "zero".
So I suggested to change his tag from "zero" to "zero_(rockman)", so that the wiki page I'm going to create for him is not going to be mixed with other "zero" who might shared the same name. Simple right?
However, here's where the issue start, one of the member here contacted me (without disclosing his username, unless he decided to do so himself) said I'm not allowed to change the tag from "zero" to "zero_(rockman)" and that I cannot create a wiki page for him. His reason was there's no other character named zero, but that's clearly not true, because when you search on danbooru with the tag "zero" it said that "zero" is an ambiguous tag, and therefore, there's more than one person named Zero that are being tagged "zero".
So if I'm going to add a wiki page for the character Zero from Rockman using the tag "zero", the page is going to be mixed with other "zero" that shared the same name as him. As previously mentioned, I suggested to change the tag to "zero_(rockman)" so that when I created the Wiki page, it would refer ONLY to the Zero from Rockman.
Note that I'm not planning to write a synopsis or a some big summary in the wiki page. Just a short description (2-3 sentences) and a link to Wikipedia for more information. However, the same member said I can't do that neither, so is there a rule against that as well?
So I decided to post this issue here to hopefully have it sorted out and end this tedious problem.
Ideally, qualifiers like _(rockman) should only be used for uncommon tags so that when someone searches for "zero", they get whatever is most associated with zero. Sadly, this rule isn't always followed, Aria being a prime example.
And to my understanding, when someone searches for "zero" they would most likely were looking for either Zero from Rockman, or Zero from Code Geass, who's also Lelouch Lamperouge.
So in order to distinguish and create a wiki page that refer only to Zero from Rockman. I think it's come down to one of these two choices, depending on which Zero is the common tag:
A. If Zero from the Rockman series is an uncommon character being tagged "zero", then change the tag "zero" that refer to the Zero from the Rockman series to "zero_(rockman)".
B. If Zero from the Rockman series is a common character being tagged "zero", then keep the tag "zero" that refer to him, but instead, all other characters being tagged "zero" should be change with their respective series in parenthesis. For example, "Zero" from Code Geass should change to "zero_(code_geass)".
Option A make more sense to me, so that Zero from Rockman series is separated from the ambiguous "zero" tag, that's mixed with other characters who shared the name Zero.
The character "Zero" from Code Geass is not tagged "zero" because his name is Lelouch Lamperouge. He is tagged "lelouch_lamperouge".
The reason there is a message that the "zero" tag is ambiguous is because YOU created a "zero_(rockman_zero)" tag for no reason. Zero from the X series and Zero from the Z series are the same character, with a different character design. For a similar situation, Nanoha isn't tagged as two characters, despite having a child and adult design, because there are _copyright_ tags to differentiate them.
Because there is no other character named "Zero" there's no reason to disambiguate the tag. I contacted you by PM in order to ask you why you made this change, and to inform you that I was reverting it and some other Rockman-related tag changes you made, so you would not make the same mistakes in the future.
If you want to make a wiki page, go ahead. But I don't really understand why you need to. Danbooru is an image archive, not a fansite or information site; the wiki is intended to help users tag images correctly, so it describes, for example, which characters are in which copyright, or what clothing item tags are used. It's not hurting anything to have a page for a character, but it's also not useful to anyone.
Yes, but the problem is Lelouch also tagged with Zero in his Zero costume. So how do you explain of his images showing up ALONG with Zero from Rockman Zero, when you search for "zero"?
That was why I wanted to disambiguated Zero from all other characters being tagged "zero". And no, the "zero" tag did not became ambiguous just because I created the "zero_(rockman_zero)" tag. The "zero" tag was ambiguous from the BEGINNING. The "zero" and "zero_(rockman_zero)" (which seem to be gone now) are two completely different tags and should not have any influence from one to another. So it doesn't matter if I create a "zero_(rockman)" or "zero_(rockman_zero)" tag or not.
And if anything the "zero" tag became ambiguous was due to Lelouch who's being tagged with his name "lelouch_lamperouge" AND "zero" in images with his Zero costume. Like this one: post #240865

Just as chiisana said, the way to fix this is to change it to zero_(code_geass) and zero_(rockman).
So, Boco, unless you have a better way to make a wiki page for Zero and not having him mixed up with other "zero" from the same tag, then I would change it to "zero_(rockman)" and add the wiki page there.

Seconding this. Either that, or if one has hugely more posts than the others, it can simply be "zero".
But if neither is *really* popular a tag, then qualifying both is fine too. You just wouldn't qualify, say... a character with 2,000 hits just because a character with the same name has three pics uploaded. In that case only qualify the second.
And I realize I just repeated albert using more words, so yeah, what he said.

Seems like most of them are properly tagged now (I did a few too). Thanks! There are three images left with the "Zero" tag which I cannot identify... hopefully someone can identify them and add "_(whatever)" as needed.

Yeah, seem like it. And thanks a lot for your help chiisana! You've been a great help! :)
And I found two of the images left with "zero" are belong to the character Zero from Tenchi Muyo, who has the ability to replicate Ryoko. Here's the wikipedia page for her: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero_(Tenchi_Muyo!)
