Pixiv artists

Posted under General

I am one of many uploading pictures I get off of pixiv to danbooru, but I have a lot of trouble trying to identify the artist's name and tag it correctly.

Their nickname is not very helpful as a lot of times, their nickname is completely different from what they are tagged as here. Not all of them have a website to search further into for a name.

Is there a method of finding the correct name of an artist on pixiv?

I usually do a check with the source:*xxx* thingy, if there is no entry and the artist doesnt have a website, check if there is an existing entry with his nickname / username (the username is the one you find on the source, after http://img.pixiv.net/img/ ), if you find none, just make an entry with his nickname, if its already taken try the username or simply add a _(pixiv"idnumber")

I'm still a little confused about the source:xxx thing. I tried using it with the direct link but am constantly shown an empty page. Of course, judging from what was stated in the other thread, not having the "normalized" url means the search won't work properly.

If the artist already has an entry here on Danbooru, the "Find artist" link on the upload form will generally report it correctly. If it reports multiple artists or none, the artist wasn't found. Even if it returns a unique result, that may not be the correct artist so check it first.

The "source:" search is mainly useful for when you create a new artist entry and want to find all his pics that were already posted here without the artist tag.

Example on post #241876, the source URL is http://img05.pixiv.net/img/painappurunokandume/285400.png , to search for other stuff posted by the artist, i usually copy/paste this part pixiv.net/img/painappurunokandume/ (so it will be " source:*pixiv.net/img/painappurunokandume/* " ), because the 'img05' can often change, and if you search with only the username, it can be too generic in some cases and find stuff from other websites

Snesso, I tried searching using source:*pixiv.net/img/painappurunokandume/* and found nothing, so I'm probably doing something wrong.

I have another question though.

For example, I uploaded some works from this artist's page. "http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=93481". If I was to tag him by his nickname, I guess I'd tag it as shiro_bouzu. But looking at the username in a direct link to one of his images I see "betobeto".

If he has not been added to the artist database yet, which should I use as the name and which should I use as an alias?

I usually always go with the nickname, if its already used and/or a too 'common' name I check the username

I added a few artist to the database but the color of the tag doesn't seem to change. How long does it usually take for an artist's name to become colored after adding it to the artist database?

You have to 'color' it yourself; when adding the artist tag on a pic, put 'artist:' before the artist name (ie: artist:taka_tony) and it colors in red

Another method is to click "Tags" on the navbar at the top, search for a tag, and then edit its type to be "General", "Copyright", "Character", or "Artist". You can also set it as ambiguous or unambiguous. Of course this is much more tedious than what Snesso said, but it does allow you to set a tag back to "General", which I don't think you can do in the edit box.
