Non-contribuiting priviledged users

How did users like http://danbooru.donmai.us/user/show/9512 come to be privileged? They weren't invited, were they here before the invite system?
And shouldn't they be demoted to members? Their privileged status allows them to give their friends, who don't contribute either, privileged status allowing them to also invite other unworthy ones to a privileged account. Example is the user given above.
I've seen a lot of these users and was just wondering what the policy is on them.

The mods can invite whoever they want, including people they personally know, whether or not those people have contributed / will contribute. Danbooru is not a strict bureaucracy. It is run by guys who like pictures of anime, not professional businessmen. Albert has admitted that the invite system is potentially an elitist system. Even if you have 5,000 posts, 0 deletions, and 100 wiki edits, a mod might not invite you just because he doesn't like you. Or if you have no activity, a mod might invite you just because you're his pal irl.

There is nothing wrong with this system. As a mod said in another thread, inviting people "not worthy" of an invite doesn't prevent those who are worthy from also being invited.

This comes up frequently. As others have said, contributing posts is one way to get invited, but not the only way. Many were invited before the current system existed, where it was invite or no access. Some are friends. Some have contributed in ways other than posting. There are a lot of reasons why.

We have more than enough invites to go around. I had over 100 last I checked. So it's not a scarce commodity - people like the one you linked aren't taking the last invite slot away from you, or whatever.

Demoting users only happens when they start breaking the rules big time - and simply being inactive is not breaking a rule.

I did not whine. Don't assume I'm whining just because I'm not privileged.

There are only a few reasons why members try to bring attention to "privileged members who do not contribute" or anything related to the gaining or losing of privileged status for that matter.

1. They are whining
2. They're jealous.
3. ...well...I don't think there is a three.

Life is life.

When we all give the power
We all give the best
Every minute in the hour
We don't think about the rest

And we all get the power
We all get the best
When everyone gives everything
Then everyone, everything will get
Life.
Life is life.

Please do not rub strongly such!

XD

...but in all seriousness, does it really matter all that much? I mean, obviously it's great to have people who contribute, but if invites are such that there are more than enough for a ton of people, what difference does it make? This an actual serious question. @_@
