Tagging traits for males

Posted under General

When a post contains both a male and a female character, for example, a pic of Ikari Shinji and Ayanami Rei, I add the tags for Ayanami (red_eyes plugsuit blue_hair etc.), but should I also add the tags for Shinji? If so, should I make new tags specifying that he's a male?

For example, I was going to add school_uniform for Shinji, because he's wearing the male's school uniform. But when people search for school_uniform, they are probably 100% of the time thinking of female school uniforms.

So, just ignore male traits for the most part? Or put school_uniform(male)?

By the way, I know I'm being obssessive about this, and that most of you would just put ikari_shinji and be done with it.

I usually ignore the male traits in a picture, unless its male_only

Well, if someone says they are going to search for tags like that, i dont mind tagging pics with those tags in the future, but I doubt there are many people who would search for school_uniform(male)

I usually don't bother, because the female characters tend to be what I personally care about. I used to tag male traits too (this was way back when you didn't need an account to post and edit tags), but laziness set in and I started mostly doing just female traits since I consider them more important. Most other Danbooru users seem to agree with me.

But male trait tags don't hurt anything, so I figure you should dgo ahead if you want to. Unless a mod says otherwise.

I vote strongly against any _(male) tags. It's sort of clumsy and definitely unnecessary. If you bother to tag traits of the males at all, just use the regular tags like you would for anything else (female, animal, plant, mineral). It won't be enough to matter, but it will let people do a search for, say, "ikari_shinji school_uniform".

This is exactly why they should be tagged as normal. And even if it's only a few images that actually get tagged that way, those few properly tagged images will help a lot if you're say, looking for reference of the male bleach school uniform.

If a person wants to find only females in school_uniform, they can always just add -male or blacklist the male tag. (Admittedly the male tag isn't really well-populated, but it works in principle, at least for most recent stuff.)
