Auto-complete is not that fast. It usually takes 2-6 seconds on my connection for auto-complete to respond. (~3 is most common).
This is an unusable drag for purposes of shortening typing time. I only use the auto-complete feature to make sure I'm spelling something right (e.g. silhouette) or to double-check if a tag exists before going all the way to the tag search feature.
