Genuine question, my upload of this from twitter last night has yet to be approved, but it's now a child post of this one. Is this just the life of blue tier user? It confuses me so much on the "quality standards" of getting things approved vs being a power user that can jump the queue. I figured Harayutaka was a guaranteed safe upload..

Contributors and above can skip the queue because they have proven they can upload high-quality art consistently. And there is no such thing as a guaranteed safe upload.

Your post was made the child because this version has fewer image artifacts. This can be prevented by uploading the best version of the image. Make sure you check the artist's Pixiv page if they have one, as they can host PNGs and are thus less likely to have image artifacts than the JPGs hosted on Twitter.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm trying to slowly work my way towards purple in some form or another. Uploading is very difficult as people reupload things almost instantly, and then things like this can happen that make uploading feel too inconsistent and competitive. I definitely see art from artists that would not get approved were it coming from a blue user, and it's a bit frustrating. Maybe I should just stick to tag gardening.

Not being able to find the best version should not be punished with a deletion, this is why it's generally considered nice (though still optional) to ask for an approver to approver a post when 1upping a non-unres user. Quite a few approvers don't mind helping out in that way either, and it prevents unfairness.

Just so you know, there are approvers who intentionally approve posts that got "1-upped" in this fashion. And I like to appeal them when I find a post I like that it's happened to too (this one isn't to my tastes personally tho). But yeah, do try to check if an artist has a Pixiv before posting from somewhere like Twitter. There's a user script that adds artist's danbooru tags on various sites and adds a tooltip that shows their links to other sites that should be helpful: topic #14673
