Most fokelore I've read has it that an object has to be 100 yrs old before it manifests into a youkai or whatever. not anything to do with if it has a owner or not.
I also would like to take the time to express my deep appreciation for the translations. This Kogasa, this whole series, is just so wonderfully cute and fuzzy, no matter what is going on in my day, I can take a minute, pop out my phone and read the next one, and smile.
