Even looking back and analyzing things I still don't quite get how Char managed to scam his way into this deal. I suppose the federation was just so desperate to end the fighting and realize that Zeon had yet another leader to rally behind that they didn't want to poke the tiger's cage too much so they were willing to give him so much to keep it from happening. And I guess nobody saw that he'd attempt a colony drop of the thing, they never realized just how insane Char had become at this point.
