Hmmmm. So Marisa and Remilia are officially on good terms* now? Now that's pretty damn interesting! And the scene looks perfect for a figurine diorama.
*)I, at least, can't recall them being so before. I could be wrong.
Official artist illustrations aren't technically "canon" unless ZUN specifically told them to draw something a certain way. They've made continuity errors before, so it's nothing new. You just have to focus more on the story than the illustrations.

The book is actually a meeting (symposium) between Kanako, Byakuren and Miko, along with Akyu and Marisa. They are discussing about the religions in Gensokyo. The character profiles are added in between each part of the meeting.
