the last panel's original english seems better than the translations, though rather than "now" "at the moment" would sound nicer..

Probably because she's playing the "older" Rerun here. Late in the strip's life, Rerun would occasionally "borrow" Snoopy from Charlie Brown and try to get him to do typical "dog" things like chase balls and such. But of course, Snoopy being Snoopy, he wasn't always cooperative in that department.

This strip greatly resembles that archetype, and since Suwako was already in Rerun's role during earlier pages that cinches it for me.
