    I think it may be an Onix. The nose and snout are reminiscent of an Onix, which is referred to as the "Rock Snake" Pokemon. So hatching from an egg suits the snake theme.

    Granted, Gen II made everything lay eggs, but I doubt GameFreak was thinking that far ahead at this point.
