Sanae, her title of living god mainly applied in the outside world where her abilities amazed folks. In Gensokyo, it's not that remarkable at all.

near as I can tell they are on the god needs faith badly system. Gods gain faith from worship and help humans youkai gain faith by scaring people, and little scares people more than the thought of becoming food.

Not that it really matters. Cool thing about exibition matches, they don't change your standing. Even if Team Moriya loses, they still "advance."
Based on that, I really wouldn't be surprised if they LOSE this match. Since, y'know... it won't count as a loss, anyway. (I'm not saying I think they will. Just that it won't shock me if they do.)

And that's the favor Sanae asked: to put on a GREAT show that would raise the bar as well as bring in more faith, and in the process mend her relationship with her patron goddess/partner. It's so obvious, yet commenters are still whining about Team Moriya winning this match. That's not the point: whatever the results are, as long as they entertain the audience, they win.

Except that if they lose the match, Sanae has said that they'll forfeit the next one, so they don't really advance in that case. There is some room for interpretation... if the match time outs, then they weren't really defeated and wouldn't be as obliged to forfeit (even if there was a judge's decision for this meaningless match that went to White Lotus). So they can fail to win this match, but it can't be a solid defeat like a pin.

it's too soon to say the sour taste the Moriya's plot armorish wins is completely washed out, but I think knowing Sanae's helpful tendencies has undone some of that (she had Yuuka and Cirno really become friends and became Flandre's friend)
Even Mokou's win in the other series was a bit more plausible at least.
