Hoo...I see that Sanae-san wants to eat some Durian, and I see that Kogasa-san does not want to try the King of Fruit.

Pre-translation: Either way is the same, Kogasa-san. Let's just obey Sanae-san and win the game. A whole new experience awaits you!

Long ago, I had an experience where some jerk in a family restaurant brought out some durian, and the place turned into pandemonium.

At any rate, there were some pretty weird events going on at this convention. :-) Sanae-san got totally fired up.

Tomorrow is the big day at Comiket for the Touhou crowd. I'll be waiting at Booth Ki-49a, Studio Hamachi-Gumi.

Reader-added tags include: "Crude fruit and nasty candy", "Better not hang in there, Kogasa-san", "However you struggle, it's despair", and "Damned (smell-wise) if you win, damned (taste- and life-wise) if you lose".

The survey looks for better alternatives:

    Fruit sure is great!

All you have to do is get rid of the durian HUSK, and you'll be fine. From what I understand, the pulp has no stench at all.

As for the poll...Um, Mizuki? Why don't I see rambutans on there?

Pomegranates make for a good joke in Hungarian: the name translates, literally, to "grenade apple". Too bad they're not actually explosive...

I didn't knew people disliked the taste of Salmiak. In Holland you have those small barrels where you can stick your finger in to keep licking it.

Well, durians are pretty large, spiky, and grow on tall trees. If one were to fall on someone, I could see it causing some trauma.

Then you're mistakened. The smell is in the pulp. The husk, however, only smells because it has soaked up the smell.

It's a win-win for me, either way. Yum.

Also, there's a common joke about the durian in Thailand: If Isaac Newton was Thai, he wouldn't have discovered gravity. Guess why?

Salmiak licorice is some sort of Danish national candy and we love it. A few years ago, someone with something to say decided that the strongest salmiak licorice was too strong, so candymakers had to make it weaker. As a result, my favorite childhood licorice, the famous Haribo Piratos are no longer what they used to be.

Food of doom? I beg to differ. It's odor may be offensive to some people, but the content is far far far far far far far FAR away from horribly disgusting taste.

Some people finds durian a delicacies as much as some people to nattoo. The smell might not be pleasant to those people, but it has such amazing sweet taste and cotton-like texture, melting right away in your mouth and easy to swallow. Durian can be eaten right away, or be sauteed into another dessert. It's seed donates additional dishes if the cook has the recipes.

Let your tongue decide how good it actually is, and don't get deceived by your nose.

    Yummy.

Let Sanae-san have her fun, Kogasa-san. If she wants to engage in the contest for your sake, then it's all the better, right? Just hope that she doesn't lose and try to take it out on you!

I'd say it would be a win-win for me. I'm always into trying out new and interesting things. I've never had durian or salmiak before, and I wouldn't mind trying them out. I'll try just about anything at least once.

For the poll, pomegranates. I haven't had them in a while, and they sure are delicious!

In my opinion, Durian taste AMAZING. Rightfully called the king of fruits in my opinion. My mother used to make Durian milkshakes when I was a kid.
I have no idea why people say it taste bad, it has a milky ice-cream like taste that just fluffy and taste so good. How is it a penalty I wonder.

    Fruits (lol).

I suspect that after eating durian you gradually get desensitized to the smell. It doesn't smell bad to me now, even though when I was a kid I used to hate it.

That, and some varieties of durian have almost no smell.

Now, if you leave it in a car, especially a hot car, that's a different story. I swear, even if you take the durian out of the car before it goes bad, the remaining SMELL DECOMPOSES ON ITS OWN, and your car smells like rotten durian afterwards. Don't ask me how that works.

Whoa, full stop. That's plain suicidal.

Durian is really best eaten alone or washed down with water. Never, I repeat, NEVER attempt to eat durian with anything that can produce alcohol... Especially booze of all type. You're just asking for a bed in the comatose patient ward.

...OK, I may have exaggerated om that last part, but people have been sent to the ER for drinking beer with durian.

Really? I like everything you've described on this page.
Salmiakki (I'm Finnish. May have something to do with this.)
Durian (Tastes good. The smell is pretty bad, but not the worst ever.)
Surströmming (Tasty, but please open it underwater or you'll never be able to sell your kitchen)
Sauerkraut (Has that nice vinegary flavor)
Hákarl (Tried once without knowing what it is. Wasn't exactly delicious but I managed to enjoy it.)
