You know, I've always wondered how Youmu can be half ghost like her grandfather unless half ghosts are slightly common in gensokyo.

my other theory is:
half ghost + human or ghost = 1/4 or 3/4 ghost
1/4 ghost + ghost or 3/4 ghost + human = Youmu

I guess Sakuya-hime was very popular back then.

You're doing it wrong. Half-ghost is a stand-alone (fertile) species. Not a new (sterile) half-breed.

What if Youmu inherited her father's ghost side and then her mother's human side then that would be 1/2 ghost right?
We don't even know if Youki is actually her father/mother's father or just a blood relative of his father/mother..

I think the whole "half" thing is being taken too literally - think of it as a genetic trait, like an eye color.

Assuming that a half-ghost can reproduce with a human, then the child of that union inherits some 'half-ghost gene'. If that gene is exhibited, the child would have a separate spirit, like Youmu.

It's quite possible that not every Konpaku is a half-ghost.

HG + H = 75/25 HF/H (human with half ghost = 75% half ghost 25% human)
If it's not dominant:
HG + H = H (100% chance of a human being born, whereas it's needed a HG with a HG to get another HG, this time with 100% chance. But two humans that carry the HG gen might produce a HG).
If ghosts have two HG gens, a HG have only one and humans none then we have:
G+H = HG 100%
HG+H = 50/50 HG/H
HG+G = 75/25 HG/G

Like I said, you're doing it wrong. Half-Ghost (like in konpaku clan) is not a half-breed. They exist as their own kind.

So, seeing konpaku clan as 0.5 Human + 0.5 ghost is outright wrong. Because konpaku family still have their (full-intact) human body but their "kon" is (visible) outside of their body (Therefore they're being called as "kon-paku").

Moreover, ghost cannot breed. They don't even have a "real" body (let alone DNA/RNA), except the one which rots away.

nobody of you know anything about genetics. let me explain how this work: if a half-ghost (youki) and a human (sakuya) have childs and they have, wich more human, or youmu, it need not be more human than half-ghost. she could have more genes for his grandpa and be a 99% half-ghost. this is Basic biology. and yes, my english is shit.
