Technically neither has most of the things in gensokyo, its just that nobody believes in them anymore.
That said, as nice as karaagetarou's stuff is, all the pop culture references are a little grating. Especically the ones that aren't just one-off sight gags and try to be part of the story. His art and stories are more than good enough to stand on their own without leaning on pop references all the time.
